1. Mount the Event Collector in a rack.
2. Connect the Event Collector’s EVENT port
(farthest from the VGA port) to a laptop using an
Ethernet crossover cable.
3. Configure the laptop to be able to access IP address
169.254.1.1.
4. Power up the Event Collector.
5. On the laptop, launch a Web browser and navigate
to IP address 169.254.1.1 on the crossover network.
Log in as admin/admin.
6. In the NetMRI Event Collector License form:
a. Click the Browse... button to locate and select
the Event Collector license file.
b. Click Apply License.
7. In the Network Configuration form:
a. Enter an IP Address for the Event Collector.
b. If needed, change the Subnet Mask.
c. Enter a Default Gateway.
d. Select a Speed/Duplex, or (recommended) set to
Auto.
e. Enter a DNS Server or servers.
f. Enter a DNS Domain or domains.
g. Enter a Time Zone (see “Appendix: Time
Zones” for exact syntax).
h. Click Configure.
8. Reboot the Event Collector.
9. Connect the Event Collector to the network via its
MGMT port.
10. Disconnect the laptop from the Event Collector and
connect it to the network.
11. Launch a Web browser and navigate to the Event
Collector at the IP address you assigned in step 7.a.
Log in as admin/admin.
12. In the Set Host NetMRI form:
a. Enter the Hostname or IP Address for the host
NetMRI.
b. Enter the Admin Password for accessing the
host NetMRI.
c. Set the Access Protocol.
d. Click Register.
13. Log in to the host NetMRI.
14. In NetMRI:
a. Navigate to Settings > Settings > Show
Settings.
b. Click the install link just above the License
Configuration tab.
c. In the License Installation panel, click the
Browse... button to locate and select the Event
Collector license file. Click OK.
d. (Optional) Import one or more analysis
definition files via Results > Events > Import
Analysis File.
Note: After the Event Collector has successfully
registered, and the license has been updated on the
NetMRI, the NetMRI will automatically change the
administrator password on the Event Collector to match
the NetMRI administrator password. It may take up to
five minutes for the Event Collector password to be
changed.
15. On the NetMRI, open Port 9100 (which is used to
access the Event Browser):
a. Log in to the NetMRI administrative shell.
b. Enter these commands:
acl
accept 0.0.0.0/0 9100
commit
exit
exit
Installation is now complete and the Event Collector is
ready to receive syslog and SNMP trap events.
Configure your syslog and SNMP trap devices to send
data to the Event Collector.
