    Monitoring GRE Tunnels

I think a nice feature for the NetMRI would be the ability to monitor GRE Tunnels which don't have Keep Alive on. Most of the monitoring tools out there enable you to set it to monitor certain ports and generate alerts if packets cannot go through to the other side of the Tunnel.

Right now I have to use the IP SLA feature on the router to generate this alert, just more configuration to keep track of on routers.

Is this something that might be considered on a further update?

    Re: Monitoring GRE Tunnels

John, thanks for the request.  We'll add this to the list, and the timing is good as we are in the process of re-categorizing and prioritizing issues for future development.  Timing on this one may be a little further out, though, as on first glance, this appears to be more performance/fault management oriented than configuration management-oriented, and our top priorities will be to add issues that strengthen change and config management analysis.  This does seem like it would be useful though, so there's no doubt we'll add it to our queue in any case.

We are also considering adding the ability for customers to define their own issues / analysis, with access to data NetMRI collects and the ability to apply rule logic using your subject matter expertise.  We're looking for feedback on how useful that would be, whether you'd use it, and any considerations we should take into account.

    Thanks,
    Lou
